I heard Amy Goodman speak at UVA last night. I knew it was going to be good. She didn’t disappoint. The talk was simultaneously overwhelming and inspiring. I think the most important piece I walked away with was the importance of telling a good story. She reminded us that it is so important to tell our stories because the corporate media will get the story wrong if they get it at all.

Most of what she had to say wasn’t new; however, there were some real eye opening new pieces for me. For example, network news cut away during the RNC at the precise moment that Mitt Romney was loving up on conservative billionaire David Koch:http://www.democracynow.org/2012/8/31/handlers_of_billionaire_david_koch_block . There was also the sick irony of David Rumsfeld purchasing Mt. Misery for a vacation home. Finally, I learned about Emmett Till and Sophie Scholl as well: heart breaking and yet deeply inspiring stories for sure.

None of these realities would be in my mind today if it wasn’t for Amy Goodman and news sources like Democracy Now!. Now more than ever, we NEED independent media to tell us the stories of the people. If you don’t know who Amy Goodman is or what Democracy Now! offers, I suggest you go find out. Your life will not be the same.

Neither candidate has called for arresting and prosecuting high ranking people on Wall Street for the subprime mortgage catastrophe.

Neither candidate is interested in holding anyone in the Bush administration accountable for the torture committed by US personnel against prisoners in Guantanamo or in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Neither candidate is interested in stopping the use of drones to assassinate people in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen or Somalia.

Neither candidate is against warrantless surveillance, indefinite detention, or racial profiling in fighting “terrorism.”

Neither candidate is interested in fighting for a living wage. In fact neither are really committed beyond lip service to raising the minimum wage of $7.25 an hour – which, if it kept pace with inflation since the 1960s should be about $10 an hour.

Neither candidate was interested in arresting Osama bin Laden and having him tried in court.

Neither candidate will declare they refuse to bomb Iran.

Neither candidate is refusing to take huge campaign contributions from people and organizations.

Neither candidate proposes any significant specific steps to reverse global warming.

Neither candidate is talking about the over 2 million people in jails and prisons in the US.

Neither candidate proposes to create public jobs so everyone who wants to work can.

Neither candidate opposes the nuclear power industry. In fact both support expansion.

Hey thanks for the reblog. My experience with Wells Fargo has made me lose all faith in the organization as a whole. I could write a book about all the horrible things I've seen happen to my coworkers, and thing's that have happened to me. Did you have a bad experience with them?

I have had nothing but bad experiences with them, one after the other, first starting when I was with Wachovia. The final straw for me is this new $5 a month charge if I don’t have a daily minimum balance of $1500 a month. Sure, $5 doesn’t seem like a lot; however, when you multiply $5 by however many thousands of customers they have, then you see their greed play out. I mean, wasn’t it enough that they sank the economy with the subprime mortgage loans? Isn’t it enough that they have been kicking families out of their homes left and right ever since? Where does the greed end? I personally don’t know how anyone works for Wells Fargo or any of these banks. What a bunch of crooks!

Occupier charged with terroristic felony for protesting in front of bank:

A protester belonging to an Occupy Wall Street group in rural Pennsylvania is being charged with felony attempted bank robbery and a terrorism-related charge for holding signs up during a demonstration at a local Wells Fargo branch.

David C. Gorczynski, 22, was charged on Tuesday with attempted bank robbery and terroristic threatening, both felonies, as well as one misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. Police detained him after he walked into an Easton, PA Wells Fargo branch with a sign that read “You’re being robbed” and another that said “Give a man a gun, he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank, and he can rob a country.”

Gorczynski was at the Wells Fargo bank as part of a demonstration led by Occupy Easton, the small Pennsylvania town’s OWS offshoot.

Easton is located around 60 miles outside of Philadelphia and has a population of only 26,800 according to the 2010 census.

The Express-Times reports that police were alerted to the branch after a bank teller hit an alarm that alerted the authorities.

“I think our guys did what they had to do in this instance,” Easton police Chief Carl Scalzo tells the paper. “At the end of the day, if we get a report of a panic alarm at a bank, we’re going to respond accordingly.”

Chief Scalzo adds that Gorczynski’s First Amendment right to protest freely can’t trump any allegations that he may have been behind something more sinister.

“We can’t allow the perceived idea of protesting to be a defense to criminality,” Scalzo says in response to reports that the suspect was simply demonstrating Wall Street corruption. “People have to understand if they want to protest, there’s a line.”

Mary Catherine Roper of the American Civil Liberties Union tells the paper that the charges seem “overzealous … especially given the clear political nature of the statements.”

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli tells The Express-Times, “I’m very on top of this” and claims he is investigating whether or not the charges were justified.

“He is not the criminal. If the police were truly there to protect and serve the taxpayers, the banksters would be arrested and this man would be called a hero,” the Occupy Easton group responds on Facebook.

Gorczynski was released on $10,000 bond after a defense and bail fund established online helped bring in enough money to buy his freedom after his arrest.
